Hey everybody. I want to thank each and every one of you for taking time out of your day to learn more about the eyes! We all know someone who wears contact lenses. They are comfortable and provide great vision without the need for glasses. However, because they are considered a medical device, proper care is needed in order to prevent infections. Here are some tips to help you stay on top of your eye health.

Dispose contact lens on time
What does this mean? Basically, if you wear a daily disposable (1-days), throw them away at the end of the day. If you wear a monthly contact lens, dispose of them at the end of the month. This ensures that the lenses are in the best and safest condition.
Avoid sleeping in lenses
Sleeping in contact lenses can sound convenient, but trust me, it is one of the worst things you can do for your eyes. Like our bodies, our eyes require nutrients. Many contact lenses can limit the amount of oxygen (nutrients) to the eyes. This deficiency can lead to an increase in infections. Dryness is also much more common when one sleeps in lenses.
Clean lenses properly
Yes! Many patients are taking care of their lenses effectively. If you wear daily disposable lenses, you don’t necessarily need to clean the lens. However, if you drop the lenses, you DO have to clean the lenses with a solution. If you wear hard lenses or monthly soft lenses, make sure you clean and RUB the lenses to remove debris and bacteria. Using a hydrogen peroxide system such as ClearCare can help make your lens cleaner than ever before.
All of these tips can help prevent infections with contact lenses. One important thing to note is if you do feel pain, light sensitivity, and increased irritation, do not hesitate to visit your eye doctor to address the issue! There is always a strong possibility the contact lens fit is off or there might be an infection. Discontinue contact lens wear and switch to glasses if you notice something off with the eyes.
